Director Biography
David Mann is a filmmaker with a passion for storytelling and visual design. They began working in film and graphic design at the age of 16 and, by 18, were designing 3D environments for a video game company. Over the years, they have directed several short films, initially as a creative outlet, before transitioning into more serious narrative work.
One of their standout projects, The Pirate’s Curse, was featured in both the Arizona Film Festival and the Neu Wave Film Festival. The Burger King marks their third narrative short and reflects a continued evolution in their film making journey.
With a background rooted in both design and storytelling, David Mann brings a unique visual perspective to every project.
What inspired you to create AI films?
I have always enjoyed creating things. From video games to apps. So when AI video generation came about, I was eager to see what capabilities it had. My first film was Cholesterol Phils. It was a total joke, but for some reason it went viral and before I knew it, I had gained a fan base who enjoyed my films. That's what truly began my journey.
How do you incorporate AI technology in your film making process?
I utilize AI tools for script analysis, visual effects, and even sound design, enhancing creativity while streamlining production. This allows me to focus on storytelling and artistic vision, ensuring a captivating experience for viewers. However, there is a tremendous amount of manual work as well in post-production.
What are some of the challenges you face as an AI film creator?
Navigating the balance between human creativity and AI capabilities is challenging. I strive to ensure that the emotional depth of storytelling remains intact while leveraging AI's efficiency and innovation in film making. There is also a lot of negativity surrounding AI generated videos, so I strive to always push the limits of what AI is capable of while maintaining a "human" element to it.
